According to reports, Jharkhand will soon launch a 100-day job guarantee scheme for urban poor workers which is similar to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) amid COVID-19.
Recently, CM of Jharkhand Hemant Soren came up with a scheme called Mukhyamantri SHRAMIK (Shahri Rozgar Manjuri For Kamgar) employment scheme which aims at giving jobs to poor unskilled workers in order to enhance their livelihood. It should be noted that Jharkhand will be the second state after Kerala started such a job guarantee scheme. Currently, Kerala is running Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (AUEGS).
Jharkhand to launch job guarantee scheme for urban poor
The job guarantee scheme will be organised by the urban development and housing department and Municipal commissioners, executive offices will take the responsibility to manage the scheme. As per economists the scheme will help the poor during the pandemic and will help the migrant workers who have left their jobs.
A lot of schemes have been launched for rural workers but this scheme will help the urban poor who migrated back to their city due to coronavirus. As per reports, more than five lakh workers have returned to Jharkhand from metropolitan cities. In recent data presented by the state rural development department, it was revealed that around 30 percent of workers are unskilled laborers.
