Officials of Amritsar Police told that the main accused identified as Mahant Girdhari Nath, who was working as the chief priest at the Guru Gyan Nath Ashram Valmiki Tirtha located at Lopoke Police Station in Amritsar.

The other person is Varinder Nath, who is an associate of Mahant Girdhari Nath.

The victim pleaded with the SC Commission.

The victim women had informed Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission member Tarsem Singh in a letter that they have been illegally kept in the ashram and raped by the Mahant repeatedly.

Rape case: Police raided the ashram 

Taking immediate action on the matter, the Lopoke police raided the ashram premises on Monday and liberated the victimized women from the ashram. The police arrested Mahant Girdhari Nath and his partner, Varinder Nath.

While two men named Nachhatra Singh and Suraj Nath escaped from the ashram, the police are now trying to arrest them.

Attari DSP Guru Pratap Singh said, “We raided the premises based on a complaint filed by Tarsem Singh Sayalka and arrested two accused, the people who ran off will be arrested soon.”

Police are currently interrogating Mahant Girdhari Nath and Varinder Nath. Police are now finding out what used to happen in this ashram. The police are scrutinizing the documents of the ashram and the records of people coming and going.
