Jaya Parvati Vrat Begins: Jaya Parvati Vrat begins, it started on Tuesday, July 2, 2020, and will go on till Wednesday, July 8, 2020. The festival Jaya Parvati Vrat is mainly celebrated in Gujarat, this festival people fast in the name of Goddess Jaya who is a form of Goddess Parvati.
In Jaya Parvati Vrat, both married and unmarried women participate in fasting. Married women fast for their successful marriage and unmarried women keep the fast to get a good husband. This festival is celebrated for 5 days in the month of Ashadha which has already started now. As per sources, the fasting is performed for five, seven, nine, eleven, or twenty continuous years.
Jaya Parvati Vrat Begins: Read on to know the procedure
During the 5 days of fasting, devotees are not allowed to eat salty food. Apart from that, some people also avoid eating cereals and vegetables during the fasting period. On the first day of fasting, wheat seeds are sown in a pot and they are worshipped for five continuous days. A cotton wool necklace is also made during the puja.
On the last day of fasting, women stay awake the whole night chanting religious Bhajans and Arti’s. This ritual is known as Jayaparvati Jagran. The fast is broken on the 6th day after morning puja and the seeds are immersed in some nearby water body. After the Puja, people are allowed to eat proper meals with salt and vegetables.
