There is a history behind the celebration of the labour day. On May 1, 1986, the workers association went on strike in the United States.
They demanded from the trade association and companies to fix the working hours. However, the strike followed by a deadly bomb blast that happened on May 4 at Haymarket Square.
Several citizens and police officers died in the blast. Then, it laid to the 8 hours working norms for the working people in the world.

The Labour Day or May Day observed in India on May 1, 1923, in Chennai. It was the time when India faced several difficult situations. People associated with the Gandhian mode and the nationalist struggle also started.
Malayapuram Singaravelu Chettiar (Communist Leader) raised the red flag in Chennai in May. It led to the beginning of communism in India. Chettiar formed his party Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan. In the next two years, his party ended.
May Day/Labour Day 2020 observed as the national holiday in the government offices. It is a special day to be thankful to the working class.
