Remembering Sir Dadabhai Naoroji: Today, June 30th is Sir Dadabhai Naoroji’s death anniversary and this day is observed by people every year to honor him and his work. Sir Dadabhai Naoroji is known as the “Grand Old Man of India” who founded the Drain Theory.
Sir Dadabhai Naoroji was born in September 1825 in Navsari. Naoroji was a scholar with several interests and used to teach Gujarati, mathematics, and natural philosophy. He was also a politician and a successful businessman.
It should be noted that Sir Dadabhai Naoroji was an active member of the Indian National Congress initially and also worked for the British Parliament. In his book, Poverty and Un-British Rule in India Naoroji has talked about Drain Theory.

Talking about the Drain Theory, Sir Dadabhai Naoroji explained how Britishers were draining India’s wealth and were exploiting its economic policies. Dadabhai also worked with British Parliament and talked about issues faced by Indians, he acted as a middle man between British parliamentarians and nationalist Indians.
