In Tamil Nadu, Sawan is known as Avani and has a special significance on Mondays. Usually, people fast on Mondays as it is considered auspicious. It should be noted that New Moon days are important in Sawan especially when it falls on Monday. It is known as Shravani Amavasya or Hariyali Amavasya as it is celebrated three days before Teej.

Timings for Puja Vidhi

The Pooja rituals will start at 12:10 am till 11.02 pm in the evening. Amavasya has special importance in Hindu culture and on this day people pay tribute to their ancestors.

Hariyali Amavasya Pooja rituals 

On this day, people and especially women worship peepal, banana or tulsi tree. A special puja is also organized worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Somvati Amavasya is also celebrated on this day.
