Gautam Gambhir went on to point out how the national selectors might not consider MS Dhoni if IPL 2020 does not happen at all. He further added that KL Rahul has been doing well with batting and wicketkeeping and it makes him an apt replacement.
It is being said that had Dhoni played in IPL 2020, it would have made a case for him. However, after its postponement due to the Coronavirus outbreak, it looks like his selection for the T20 World Cup might be rather difficult.
During his conversation with Star Sports Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir, former Indian sportsman and now BJP leader spoke about MS Dhoni’s fate for the T20 World Cup.
He went on to question how will he be selected given that he hasn’t been playing for more than a year. He stated, “If the IPL does not happen this year, then it will become very difficult for MS Dhoni to make a comeback.”
He also expressed how the end goal is to make India win and for that, only those who manage to perform their best can represent the country. He also made a comment about his retirement and stated how that is a personal choice.

As can be recalled, MS Dhoni played for India back in the 2019 World cup but ever since he has been away. While it was being said that a good stint in IPL 2020 will enable the former Indian skipper to keep his spot at the T20 World Cup due at the end of this year.
While Gambhir seemed to have apt questions, he also revealed how he feels that KL Rahul can be the right replacement for MS Dhoni.
Gambhir seemed to be all praises for KL and stated how his performance in white-ball cricket has been commendable as far as keeping is concerned. However, he did add that it is not as good as that of MS Dhoni.
He said, “But if you are looking at T20 cricket, Rahul’s a utility player, can keep and bat at No. 3 or 4.”
