In a recent interview, former captain Rahul Dravid admitted that it would be difficult for him to play in today’s international cricket as he was always a slow batsman. But he still believes that the defensive technique of playing plays a major role even though it’s fading away.
According to Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have set the standard very high in ODI cricket but a test cricket will always require a batsman like Cheteshwar Pujara. Rahul added that he never felt shy of being called a defensive player because he always wanted to be a Test player from the beginning of his career.
During an interview with ESPN Cricinfo videocast, Rahul said it’s better to play safe and be defensive as the bowlers also get tired with a slow batsman. Rahul Dravid is proud of being a defensive batsman and belives everybody has a different set of skill and he was connected to concentration and commitment.
Rahul Dravid praises Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma
Rahul Dravid has played more than 300 ODI’s which means he was useful for the team but he agrees now if he played like that he would have not survived and not be able to be a part of the team definitely.
As per Dravid, he cannot compete with Virat or Rohit as they have changed the ODI standards, and cricket has now become a big score game but he believes defensive batting is still helpful in tough spells. The former caption praised Virat Kohli and said he is doing really well especially in Test cricket.
